UP: Chinese national arrested in Bahraich for attempting to illegally cross India-Nepal border

The woman was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel on Saturday while trying to enter Nepal illegally dressed as a Buddhist monk. Authorities are trying to ascertain the purpose of her entry and exit from India, said a senior official from the SSB.

A Chinese national woman was arrested in the Rupaideha area of Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district for allegedly attempting to cross the India-Nepal border illegally while disguised as a Buddhist monk, according to officials. The woman was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel on Saturday while trying to enter Nepal.

As per an SSB senior official, the woman had a Nepalese visa that was valid till February 16 of next year that confirmed her arrival at the Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Authorities are trying to ascertain the purpose of her entry and exit from India, while also probing details of her travel to the country, said the official.

Meanwhile, the SSB lodged a case under Section 4(A) of the Foreigners Act against the Chinese woman at the Rupaideha police station and the accused is being interrogated. The woman has been identified as Li Xinmei (45) who hails from Shandong in China, said SSB Commandant GS Adawat.

According to Adawat, the woman was unable to comprehend Hindi and English during the initial round of interrogation, causing an interpreter from the national intelligence agencies to be used to facilitate further investigation of the Chinese national.
