In a tragic incident, six people died while several other got injured after a building collapsed at Transport Nagar in the Sarojini Nagar area of Lucknow. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. The police have reached the site and have started rescue work. One team of NDRF and two teams of SDRF were rushed to the spot, soon after the incident.
ADG, Law and Order Amitabh Yash reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Meanwhile, Naib Tehsildar Govardhan Shukla reached Lok Bandhu Hospital and informed that a total of 6 persons had died in the incident and 24 persons were still injured. Out of the deceased persons, one was referred to Apollo Hospital, but he succumbed on the way.
Three deceased identified
Meanwhile, three deceased have been identified by the police. The deceased include:
- Pankaj Tiwari son of Satya Prakash Tiwari, age about 40 years
- Dheeraj Gupta son of Mahadev Gupta, age about 48 years
- Arun Sonkar son of Sanjay Sonkar, age about 28 years
One floor cleared, rescue ops underway on two floors
According to available information, there were three floors in the Harmilap building, all of which were being used as warehouses. On the ground floor, there was a warehouse of mobiles and spare parts and on the second and third floors, there were warehouses of pharmaceuticals and gift items. The administration has so far rescued all the trapped individuals from one floor. It is still not clear, how many people are trapped in the remaining two floors.
CM Yogi directs officials
Soon after the incident, CM Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the matter and directed officials to make immediate efforts to rescue those trapped. Rescue operation is being collectively run by NDRF, SDRF, fire brigade, medical department, and municipal corporation. Drones have also been deployed to find the trapped individuals.
Rajnath Singh calls DM
Reacting to the tragic incident, Union Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh said, "The news of the accident caused by the collapse of a building in Lucknow is extremely painful. I have spoken to the District Magistrate of Lucknow over the phone and got information about the situation at the spot. The local administration is carrying out relief and rescue operations on the spot and is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way."
