Hathras accident: Stampede during satsang in UP, women, children among 116 dead

Hathras Stampede: The stampede occurred during a Satsang of Narayan Hari alias Bhola Baba due to overcrowding at the event. In quick action, a team under ADG has been constituted to investigate the case while UP DGP has been sent on-site. CM Yogi has directed war efforts in rescue operation.

Hathras Stampede: At least 116 people have died and several others were injured after a stampede during the conclusion of Bhole Baba's satsang at Phulrai village near Mandi of Sikandrarau in Hathras district on Tuesday. The stampede apparently occurred due to overcrowding, Sikandra Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar said. According to officials, a team comprising the Agra additional director general of police and the divisional commissioner of Aligarh are probing the incident.

Taking cognisance of the incident that took place in Hathras, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sought a detailed report from Additional Chief Secretary Home Deepak Kumar. He has also instructed senior officers associated with the police administration to rush the spot immediately to speed up the relief work and ensure arrangements for treatment of the injured etc. He has given instructions to investigate the causes of the incident under the leadership of ADG Agra and Commissioner Aligarh. The CM has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

UP Minister Sandeep Singh who was on his way to the incident site said, "We have been instructed by the CM to reach the Hathras incident site and look into the matter and take required decisions on behalf of the government. The number of deceased is continuously increasing..."

Speaking on the incident, Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar said, "116 people have died in the incident. All things are under investigation and we do not want to affect the process by jumping on to conclusions. The matter will proceed based on the findings of the investigation..."

 

PM Modi, CM Yogi, Amit Shah expresses condolences

Expressing his condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "My thoughts are with those bereaved in Hathras. Prayers with the injured. The UP Government is working to assist those affected."

CMO Etah, Umesh Kumar Tripathi said, "27 bodies have arrived at the post-mortem house so far, including 25 women and 2 men. Many injured have also been admitted. Further details will be revealed after the investigation. The primary reason is a stampede during a religious event."

Speaking on the matter, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "PM Narendra Modi, Union HM Amit Shah have expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the bereaved families. The Government of India and the state govt have also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the families of the seriously injured. The state government will get to the bottom of this entire incident, whether this is an accident or a conspiracy, we will get to the bottom of it. Doing politics instead of expressing condolences on such an incident is extremely unfortunate and condemnable. The government is already sensitive in this matter and the government will get to the bottom of this matter and give appropriate punishment to the conspirators and those responsible for this incident."
