UP: Section 144 imposed in Lucknow till May 17 in view of Lok Sabha elections, upcoming festivals

Polling for the Lok Sabha election in Lucknow will take place in the fifth phase on May 20. The general elections in the country have been scheduled in seven phases starting from April 19.

Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed section 144 in Lucknow till May 17 in the wake of upcoming Lok Sabha elections and festivals.

JCP Law and Order Upendra Kumar Agrawal has informed that in view of upcoming general elections and festivals including Holi and ongoing Ramzan, section 144 has been imposed in Lucknow.

Lucknow will vote in the upcoming elections in the fifth phase on May 20.

Overall, Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be taking place in seven phases starting from April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. The counting o votes is scheduled for June 4.

BJP has fielded Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh against Samajwadi Party (SP) Ravidas Mehrotra.

Rajnath won Lok Sabha elections from the Lucknow seat in the 2014 and 2019 elections. The seat has been a BJP's stronghold since 1991.
