In a sigificant turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Deoria constituency Shashank Mani Tripathi was witnessed running towards the nomination center. The scene unfolded amidst intensified poll campaign surrounding the crucial Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
Significantly, in a video posted online, the BJP candidate from the seat was seen running down the road to reach centre before it close for the day. However, what catches the attention was Tripathi was such in hurry to file his nomination paper as today was not the last date for filing the nominations. It is pertinent to note that the Deoria is among the 13 Lok Sabha seats, which will go to polls in the last phase of seven phase elections on June 1.
About Deoria Lok Sabha Constituency
Deoria, nestled within the heartland of Uttar Pradesh, commands significant electoral significance, boasting of five pivotal Assembly segments including Tamkuhiraj, Fazilnagar, Deoria, Pathardeva, and Rampurkarkhana. With its status as a general seat, the constituency has historically witnessed a battle of political ideologies, among the Bahujan Samaj Party led by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
Further, reflecting on past electoral performances by the political parties, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw BJP's Ramapati Ram Tripathi securing a mammoth win with a resounding margin of 249,931 votes, while also overcoming the formidable challenge posed by BSP's Binod Kumar Jaiswal, who garnered 32.56% of the votes.
In the preceding 2014 elections, the BJP's Kalraj Mishra stamped his authority on the Deoria constituency, amassing 496,500 votes and clinching victory with a commanding vote share of 51.07%. Mishra outpaced then BSP's Niyaj Ahmad by a staggering margin of 265,386 votes.
