Israel-Hamas war: Amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, the Uttar Pradesh Police registered a case against two individuals and arrested one of them for allegedly posting objectionable content on social media in support of Palestine in the Hamirpur district of the state. The case was lodged at Maudaha police station in Hamirpur on Friday.
What did the police say?
The arrested person has been identified as cleric Atif Chaudhary, a resident of the Haidaria locality. Police said on Saturday that Atif Chaudhary and Suhail Ansari of Chaudharana had posted in support of Palestine on October 8 on their social media account.
The police official said that the case was registered following a complaint lodged by Inspector Ravi Mehta posted at Maudaha Kotwali. In his complaint lodged at the police station, Mehta said that a private account was created on Instagram by one Atif Chaudhary, a resident of Haidaria Mohalla of town.
From this account, a post in support of Palestine was made on the night of October 8. The police said that on October 12, similar messages were also circulated through the WhatsApp status of a youth named Suhail Ansari, and objectionable language was used.
What was said in the complaint?
The complainant said that such actions were attempted to disrupt the town's religious and social harmony. People are also expressing anger, and there is a fear of peace being disrupted.
The station in-charge of Maudaha, SK Saini, said that the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation against Atif Chaudhary and Suheel Siddiqui in this matter. He said that one of the accused has been arrested, while the search for the other accused is ongoing.
