Heatwave continues in UP: Prayagraj sizzles at 47.6 degrees Celsius, no relief anytime soon

The weather department has issued a forecast for the next five days predicting persisting heatwaves to severe heatwaves. The heatwave conditions are expected in almost all places of the state during the next 24 hours with some regions to witness severe heatwave conditions.

Amid the persisting heatwave conditions across Uttar Pradesh, the maximum temperature at most places remained above 45 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Among the hottest cities, Prayagraj topped the chart with the highest day temperature at 47.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature is 8.7 notches above the normal temperature in the city.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, the weather in Uttar Pradesh remained dry during the past 24 hours with severe heat and heatwave continued in most places of the state.

As per the RMC Lucknow forecast, there is no possibility of relief from the scorching heat anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Jhansi recorded a maximum temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius. Moreover, Varanasi and Kanpur registered high temperatures of 46.8 degrees each. In Agra, the maximum temperature reached 46.5 degrees while in Sultanpur it was recorded at 46.4 degrees.

Among other cities, Fatehpur recorded 46.2 degrees while Fursatganj and Barabanki registered a maximum temperature of 46 degrees each. Orai and Lucknow recorded 45.8 degrees and 45.6 degrees respectively.

The weather department has said that heatwave conditions are expected in almost all places of the state during the next 24 hours with some regions to witness severe heatwave conditions.

Heatwaves in Punjab and Haryana

Meanwhile, the heatwave conditions also swept Haryana and Punjab on Sunday, with Samrala and Nuh reeling at 47.2 degrees and 46.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

The sweltering heat also battered Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, as it recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.

While the scorching heat swept Samrala in Punjab's Ludhiana, Nuh was the hottest place in Haryana.
