In a tragic incident, at least eleven people died and several others were injured after an auto they were travelling in was hit by a truck on Wednesday (November 6). According to information released, the incident occurred in Hardoi's Roshanpur village, where officials reported that a sudden collision led to the deaths of eleven passengers, including six women and three children.
About the incident
The police stated that they first received a report of the incident around 12:30 pm. A team of officials immediately arrived at the scene to carry out rescue efforts. While the police earlier stated a total of ten people were killed in the incident, the toll later escalated to eleven. Speaking of the details of the incident, Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, Superintendent of Police, Hardoi, had then said, "Ten people, including six women, died in a collision between an auto and a truck. Four people were injured. They are out of danger but are being sent to the district hospital for further treatment."
Significantly, the Hardoi SP also noted that an investigation into the accident is underway, and more details will be released soon. He added that one possible cause under investigation is whether the DCM vehicle lost control while trying to avoid a possible collision with the motorcycle, however, hit the auto. The Hardoi SP emphasized that the exact cause will only be confirmed after a thorough investigation.
PM Modi expresses condolence
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the incident, the Prime Minister extended condolences to the next of kin of the deceased. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he stated, "The road accident in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, is heartbreaking. Many families have lost their loved ones in this. I pray to God to give them the strength to bear this immense sorrow."
Significantly, the Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap while the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
