Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday held an ‘Aabhar Sabha’ (Thanks-giving program) and termed the Congress' victory in Amethi and Rae Bareli as "historic". Addressing the Aabhar Sabha, Rahul Gandhi claimed that if Priyanka had contested Varanasi, she would have defeated PM Modi by two or three lakh votes.
Gandhi scion said he and other party MPs would not "fall victim to arrogance" over the poll outcome and work for the cause of the masses.
Mentioning BJP’s defeat in Ayodhya, Rahul accused PM Modi of ignoring the common people and giving prominence to industrialists and other personalities during the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple and said the masses taught them a lesson by ensuring the BJP's defeat.
'Awadh has sent message to the country': Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi also addressed the thanks-giving program and said that the entire country is looking towards Awadh which has sent a message that "we need a dedicated, true and clean politics" in the country. "This was a historic win. We feel proud to say that this message went from Awadh to the entire Uttar Pradesh and to the entire country that we need dedicated, true and clean politics in our country. The entire country is looking towards you," she said.
She also credited the "unity" between the workers of the Congress and Samajwadi Party for the optimistic results in the Lok Sabha election in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi said, "All my friends from the Samajwadi Party, who are sitting on the stage, and all the (party) workers, who fought this election shoulder to shoulder with us, we made an army on whose strength we won Rae Bareli and Amethi (Lok Sabha seats)," she said.
The Aabhar Sabha was orgainsed following the victory of Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli and KL Sharma in Amethi. Notably, the Congress clinched six Lok Sabha seats in UP while the Samajwadi Party bagged 37 seats out of 80. BJP suffered a major setback by getting reduced to 33 seats from 64 in 2019 elections.
