In a tragic incident, at least four labourers lost their lives and 18 others sustained injuries after the truck they were travelling in was hit by another truck from behind near Muradnagar in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on the Peripheral Expressway when some passengers had alighted for a break. However, tragedy befell them as a truck approaching from behind collided with the Eicher Canter by side, causing it to overturn.
Significantly, speaking of the incident, officials said the collision occurred when a truck from Sonipat, Haryana, bound for Hardoi, carrying a total of 35 brick kiln workers, was hit by another truck from behind.
"As some passengers had alighted for a break, a truck approaching from behind collided with the Eicher Canter, causing it to overturn. Sadly, four individuals lost their lives, identified as Mayadevi (45), Irshad (30), Najuman (60), and Shamina (20), all residents of Hardoi district," Additional DCP Traffic, Ghaziabad, Veerendra Kumar said.
Additionally, 18 others sustained injuries in the mishap, he added.
Meanwhile, the injured were promptly taken to the nearest community health centre and later referred to the Ghaziabad district hospital for treatment. Nine severely injured individuals were further transferred to GTB Hospital in Delhi for specialised medical care.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
