Gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari murder: At least six police officials have been suspended for negligence, resulting in the murder of gangster Sanjeev alias Jeeva. "The police officials posted in the security of the court have been suspended," said DCP Lucknow Central, Aparna Kaushik today.
Jeeva was fatally shot by a man posing as a lawyer inside the Lucknow civil court premises on Wednesday.
"According to the post-mortem report of gangster Sanjeev alias Jeeva, there were 16 bullet entry and exit points in the body showing that 8 bullets were fired. Six bullets hit his chest and 2 his hand and he was brought dead to Balrampur Hospital," stated King George's Medical University, Lucknow.
Accused Vijay Yadav judicial custody:
The accused in the daylight murder of notorious gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva was granted fourteen days' judicial custody, police informed on Thursday. His assailant was identified as Vijay Yadav."Vijay Yadav, the accused in Sanjeev Jeeva's murder was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody," said Special DG Prashant Kumar on Thursday. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) recorded the statement of the accused at the KGMU Trauma Centre.
Once he is deemed to have made a recovery at the hospital, the assailant will be sent to Lucknow Jail.
Who was Sanjeev Maheshwari alias JEEVA?
Jeeva was alleged to have been involved with several gangs and carried out several criminal activities for almost three decades. He is also said to have been a key aide of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. Jeeva emerged as a notorious gangster after the murder of BJP leaders Krishna Nand Rai and leader Braham Dutt Dwivedi and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
In the shooting incident on Wednesday, two police constables and a child also sustained injuries. After the incident, a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the firing incident inside the Lucknow Civil Court, the UP Chief Ministers Office (CMO) informed on Wednesday.
"A three-member SIT, including Mohit Agarwal, ADG Technical; Joint CP, Lucknow, Nilabja Chaudhary and Ayodhya IG Praveen Kumar, has been constituted to investigate the incident," read an official statement from CMO.
State Home Department advisory to all districts:
No one will be allowed to carry arms, or guns inside the court premises.
Principal secretary of home dept reviews law-and-order situation:
Principal Secretary of the Home Department Sanjay Prasad today (June 8) directed all district police chiefs of Uttar Pradesh to ensure that all security equipment in court premises are fully functional and trained personnel are deployed there.
Reviewing the law-and-order situation in the state a day after gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari's aide Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva was shot dead on the premises of a Lucknow court, he said proper security arrangements should be ensured in subordinate courts following prescribed standards.
"CCTV cameras have been installed for security in court premises," Prasad said and asserted the state government was following a zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activities. Police commissioners and superintendents of police should ensure that all the security equipment in court premises are fully functional and trained police personnel are deployed there. Arrangement of entry passes should be strictly followed, he said.
Prasad said, "The Interstate Intelligence Group should be active in providing information about criminal activities. Those involved in heinous crimes should be punished in the least possible time through effective pleading in courts."
The jail manual should be strictly followed and the security arrangement at all facilities, including bus stands, railway stations and airports should be further strengthened, he added.
