Massive traffic jam on Delhi-Noida border ahead of farmers' protest march, barricades installed | Details

Given the call for protest march, Delhi and Noida Police have put barricading on state border points. Their key demand includes compensation and benefits under new agriculture laws.

As farmers from Uttar Pradesh are set to march to the Parliament complex in Delhi on Monday, the Delhi-Noida border witnessed a massive jam. The farmers will start marching from near the Mahamaya flyover and will move towards Delhi on foot and on tractors at 12 pm. Farmers from 20 districts will take part in protest march. The farmers are heading to Delhi with their five demands, including the compensation based on new agriculture laws.

Meanwhile, the police have beefed up the security and installed barricading. Additionally, route have also been diverted by the police in Noida. On Police & RAF deployed at Delhi-UP Chilla border in view of call by some farmer organisation to march to Delhi over their various demands, DCP East Delhi, Apoorva Gupta said, "We got some advance information about some farmers' organisation who have announced a march to Delhi. They have not been permitted to enter Delhi for this protest as the Parliament session is on. We will ensure no law & order situation arises and there are no traffic disruptions. We are coordinating with Noida Police. The police force is deployed at all major and small Delhi-UP borders."

What are farmers' demands?

The farmers are set to march towards Delhi with following demands:

  • an allocation of 10 per cent plots.
  • a 64.7 per cent increase in compensation under the old acquisition law (four times the market rate).
  • 20 per cent plots for land acquired after January 1, 2014.
  • employment and rehabilitation benefits to children of landless farmers.

Route Diversions

  • From DND Border to Delhi, the vehicles can use Film City Flyover, Sector 18, and the elevated road.
  • Vehicles coming from Kalindi Border in Delhi can reach Sector 37 using Mahamaya Flyover.
  • Commuters on the Yamuna Expressway can take the Jewar toll, Khurja, and Jahangirpur to reach their destinations.
  • Those approached from Chilla Border towards Greater Noida can take Sector 14A flyover, Golchakkar Chowk, Sector 15, Sandeep Paper Mill Chowk, and Jhundpura Chowk.
  • Commuters travelling to Delhi via Sirsa and Pari Chowk from Peripheral Expressway should use Dadra and Dasna.
  • Greater Noida vehicles can also take the Hajipur underpass towards Kalindi Kunj and Sector 51 to Sector 60 via Model Town.
  • From Greater Noida to Delhi, the vehicles can use Charkha Roundabout to Kalindi Kunj.
