Lakhimpur Kheri COVID: Uttar Pradesh once again witnessed a massive spike in COVID-19 cases on Sunday. At the latest, at least 39 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya tested positive after a student returned from Holi vacation infected with the virus.
According to multiple media reports, the matter came to light after a student of Matauli KGBV tested positive for the lethal virus. Subsequently, the health officials conducted a mass testing wherein at least 92 people including teachers and students participated in the drive. On Saturday, among 92, at least 38 turned positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, the administration seized the school and converted it into an isolation centre. The health officials informed that the condition of all the students who tested positive was stable.
"One girl was positive from Kasturba Gandhi Girls residential school. As it's a residential school we picked up samples of 92 girls for contact tracing out of which 39 are positive," said Dr Santosh Kumar Gupta, CMO, Lakhimpur Kheri.
"All children are fine and they have been quarantined. All staff & teachers are living there. We have stationed an ambulance for precautionary emergencies," he added.
