UP: 21-year-old college student dragged by phone snatchers from auto in Ghaziabad, critically injured

The woman received severe head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private Ghaziabad hospital and her condition is critical. The police have arrested the prime suspect following a brief encounter.

Ghaziabad: A 21-year-old engineering student was critically injured after she sustained severe head injuries when two individuals on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her phone by pulling her out of an auto-rickshaw in Ghaziabad, police said on Sunday.

Women suffered severe head injuries

The incident took place on Friday in the jurisdiction of the Masoori police station. One of the suspects was arrested by the police after a brief encounter on Saturday evening. According to the Ghaziabad Police, the victim was identified as Kirti Singh, a first-year computer science student. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Vivek Chand Yadav said Kirti Singh was returning home from college when the incident took place. Two individuals on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her phone and forcibly pulled her out of the moving auto-rickshaw during the incident. "The girl hit the divider and suffered severe injuries to her head. She is currently admitted to hospital," the DCP said. 

Prime suspect arrested

Subsequently, the police successfully traced the motorcycle-riding suspects and engaged in an encounter with the primary suspect, known as Bobbil alias Balbir. Balbir sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the encounter. However, his accomplice, who was driving the motorcycle, managed to flee the scene. 

Police have lodged an FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the matter is being investigated.
