In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman and her minor brother were attacked with acid when they were sleeping inside a room at their residence in Bareilly under the Izzatnagar Police Station on Tuesday, the officials said.
The woman was a NEET student, while her brother was in Class 11. They have been admitted to a private hospital in the city and their conditions are said to be critical.
Two suspects arrested

At around 3 am, when the siblings were sleeping in their room, some persons entered the house and poured acid on them, Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said.
The preliminary inquiry has revealed the attackers knew the woman, he added.
Their mother told the police that both of them studied till 2 am and went to sleep after which the incident happened. Although the mother did not suspect anyone, the girl, in her statement, suspected the involvement of two youths. Acting on her statement, the police detained them.
According to the ASP, the girl told the police that they had been following her for the last few days and her refusal of love proposal could also be the reason behind this incident.
An FIR for an acid attack under section 326-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Izzat Nagar police station, they said.
