Vrindavan wall collapse: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs to the next of kin of those killed after parts of an old building collapsed on devotees near the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan.
Taking cognizance of the incident, the CM said that free treatment will be provided to all the injured and directed officials to ensure proper treatment of those injured. He has also instructed senior officers of the district administration to visit the spot and take care of the relief work on an immediate basis.
CM Yogi expressed condolences
The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and also offered his condolences to the bereaved family members over the loss of lives in the accident. Yogi Adityanath also wished for the recovery of the injured.
5 killed, 4 injured
As many as five people were killed and four were injured when parts of an old building collapsed on devotees. The deceased as Geeta Kashyap (50), Arvind Kumar Yadav (35) and Rashmi Gupta (52) from Kanpur, Anju Murgan (51) of Vrindavan and Chandan Rai (28) of Deoria.
According to the information received, several monkeys were fighting on the wall due to which it collapsed and led to a major unfortunate accident.
The police said that a big chunk of a balcony collapsed on devotees walking past the house first and as work was underway to rescue those trapped under the debris, a wall of the building collapsed.
CCTV footage of the incident went viral
The incident allegedly took place due to the dilapidated wall of the house. It occurred near Banke Bihari and Sneh Bihari temples in the city. As soon as the incident happened, there was a hue and cry on the spot and people started running away in panic. CCTV footage showed a part of the building falling on people, causing chaos in the area.
Speaking about the incident, Mathura District Magistrate Pulkit Khare said confirmed that five people have lost their lives and four are still admitted to hospitals. "The police team is present at the spot. The compensation will be looked into as per the rules for those who have died and are undergoing treatment. Teams are working to investigate the incident," he added.
