Atiq Ahmed murder case: Prayagraj Police SIT files 2000-page chargesheet in court

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead from point-blank range on April 15 night by three assailants posing as media persons.

Chargesheet: Prayagraj Police's Special Investigation Team has filed a nearly 2000-page chargesheet against the three assailants who shot dead gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf on April 15 night.

The SIT filed the chargesheet in Prayagraj's CJM court. Besides this, a case diary of about 2000 pages was also submitted before the court.

On April 15, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead from point-blank range while being taken for their medicals, in the presence of police officials. Three persons, posing as journalists, had joined the media persons who surrounded Atiq and his brother asking questions. The three men shot Atiq and Ashraf who died on the spot. They were arrested soon after from the place of the incident.

The accused were identified as Lavlesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya, and Sunny Singh. All of them allegedly had criminal backgrounds.

Atiq was an accused in the Raju Pal and Umesh Pal murder cases. He was also convicted in the Umesh Pal abduction cases, weeks before his murder.

Autopsy report

Eight bullets hit gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed who was killed by three shooters, the autopsy report had earlier revealed.

Police in its FIR have mentioned that the accused wanted to become gangsters and this triggered them to take this extreme step. One of the shooters was injured in cross-firing by another when the crime was being committed.

The deceased brothers were buried in the same graveyard where other family members were laid to rest, including Atiq's son Asad, who was buried after being killed in an encounter in Jhansi, two days before his own murder.
