Fearing that gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf might reveal secrets, the opposition parties got them killed, alleged Uttar Pradesh minister Dharampal Singh. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on the night of April 15 while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.
While the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member judicial inquiry commission to probe the matter, the Opposition has mounted attacks that the law and order in the state have totally collapsed in the state.
"The truth is that the opposition is involved in getting Atiq killed. Some serious secrets were about to be revealed, that's why the opposition got him murdered," said Singh, the state animal husbandry and dairy development minister. The minister also said that in the previous governments, the police officers used to live in the fear of Atiq. Also the judges avoided hearing the cases of Atiq. But the Yogi government not only brought Atiq Ahmed to his knees but also finished his empire.
Meanwhile, the STP today inspected the Prayagraj hotel where the three shooters stayed. "The team, that came here, collected the entry register and IDs that we take at the time of entry (of guests at the time of check-in). DVR also collected," Mohit, staff at the hotel in Prayagraj said.
