In an era where environmental conservation has become crucial, one man’s dedication stands out as a beacon of hope and inspiration. Police constable Devender Sura, affectionately known as the 'Tree Man of Haryana,' has planted over 2 lakh trees in Sonipat, Haryana, over the past decade.
Devender Sura’s journey began in 2011 when he moved to Chandigarh. "When I came to Chandigarh, I saw its greenery and got motivated to do something for Mother Earth from which everyone gets benefit," recalls Sura. The lush green environment of Chandigarh ignited a passion within him to initiate a similar transformation in his home district.
In 2012, Sura started his plantation drive in Sonipat, Haryana. He approached the task with a plan, convinced that if a city could become green through systematic effort, the entire nation could follow suit. "I believe that if a city can be made green with a plan, then the whole nation can be made green with a plan. With this inspiration, I started the plantation drive from Sonipat, Haryana," says Sura.
Significantly, Sura's efforts went beyond merely planting trees; he embarked on a mission to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. His relentless efforts and ability to inspire others have been instrumental in the success of his initiative.
Meanwhile, former Minister of State, Darshana Jardosh, lauded Sura's commitment, stating, "Mr. Devender Sura is a champion of the environmental cause. His example should serve as a beacon of inspiration to all!"
Further, over the past decade, Sura has not only planted lakhs of trees but has also managed to cultivate a community of environmentally conscious individuals. His work has led to the transformation of barren lands into green landscapes, contributing significantly to the local ecosystem and the well-being of the community.
