Hyderabad: Seven people, including a 4-year-old child, were killed when a retaining wall at an under-construction apartment collapsed due to heavy rains in the Bachupally area of Hyderabad, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
As per the Bachupally Police, the deceased were migrant workers hailing from Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Police said that the bodies of the victims were recovered early on Wednesday from beneath the debris, with the assistance of an excavator.
Rain, thunderstorm throws normal life out of gear in Hyderabad
Heavy rain pounded the city and various parts of Telangana on Tuesday, disrupting life in certain areas. Several locations in the city experienced waterlogging, causing traffic congestion. The rain and thunderstorm led to waterlogging on roads at several places, while trees were also uprooted.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, the location of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) head office received the highest rainfall of 84.5 mm rainfall during 8.30 am and 6 pm on Tuesday.
CM Revanth Reddy reviewed situation
The Disaster Relief Force (DRF) teams were deployed to clear water stagnation and fallen trees in various locations across the city, as confirmed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials.
Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) Danakishore along with GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose visited various waterlogging points areas and gave instructions to DRF teams on ground in the city.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who was campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in Warangal, reviewed the situation and instructed officials to take immediate action to drain out the water from the roads and restore the electricity supply.
