OnePlus Nord 4 versus OnePlus Nord 3: Which feels better?

OnePlus has launched Nord 4- the new addition in the series in the Indian market which comes with a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chip, backed by 100 SuperVOOC fast charging, along with 4 years of Android OS updates. Here is a quick comparison with the OnePlus Nord 3- the predecessor to know what's new.

The OnePlus Nord 4 has officially launched in India, under the price tag of Rs 30,000. The new model is significantly cheaper than the Nord 3 which retailed at Rs 33,999. The smartphone has been equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chip and promises 4 years of Android OS updates. The smartphone will be available for pre-order from July 20 onwards and will go on open sale on August 2 from the Amazon store. As part of the launch offer, you will get up to Rs 3,000 discount on select bank cards.

OnePlus Nord 4 versus Nord 3

The OnePlus Nord 4 has been launched in India, as a successor to the OnePlus Nord 3- with a lower price tag and significant upgrades. Here's a comparison to help you decide if it's worth upgrading.

Design

The OnePlus Nord 4 features a metal body with a dual-tone finish and is available in three variants- Obsidian Midnight (dark black and grey with a textured finish), Mercurial Silver (2D laser-etched design in silver) and Oasis Green (matte-like finish in light and dark green shades).

The predecessor- Nord 3 comes with a glass rear with a glossy or matte finish, depending on the colour- Tempest Grey (matte finish, hides fingerprints) and Misty Green (Glossy finish, prone to fingerprints).

Display

Nord 4 and Nord 3- both smartphones feature a 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the Nord 4 offers a higher peak brightness of 2,150 nits when compared to the Nord 3 i.e., 1,450 nits along with the enhanced HDR content visibility. 

The Nord 3 launched with Dragontrail Glass protection, which is lacking in the Nord 4.

Processor

The OnePlus Nord 4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC, while the Nord 3 uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC. This upgrade is expected to provide better performance in the latest device.

Camera

Both phones feature a 50MP rear shooter (main) and an 8MP ultrawide shooter. The Nord 4 uses a new Sony LYTIA sensor, and on the other hand, the Nord 3 comes with a Sony IMX 890 sensor. 

The Nord 3 further includes an additional 2MP macro lens for close-up shots. Both phones have a 16MP front camera for selfies.

Battery and charging

The OnePlus Nord 4 comes with a 5,500mAh battery and supports faster 100W charging. 
The Nord 3 comes with a 5,000mAh battery with 80W charging.

Software and OS

The Nord 4 runs on Android 14-based OxygenOS and promises 4 years of Android OS updates and 6 years of security patches. 
The Nord 3 runs Android 13-based OxygenOS, upgradable to Android 14, and will receive 3 major OS updates and 4 years of security patches.

Overall

The OnePlus Nord 4 offers several upgrades over the Nord 3, including a better display, upgraded processor, larger battery, faster charging capabilities and more extended software support.
