Apple's iOS 18 adds new features, with language support for Indian users

In the recent updates, Apple has added features to it's iOS update for improving the experience across phone and communication with support for new Indian languages, fronts and numerals, along with multilingual Siri support.

Apple has brought additional features via its iOS update to improve the experience across phone and communication with support for new Indian fronts and numerals, language and input with a multilingual keyboard, enhanced language search and multilingual Siri support, the company said on Tuesday. To attract and impress Indian users

In a statement, Apple said, "iOS 18 makes iPhone more personal, capable, and intelligent than ever. It's a major release that features more customisation options, the biggest redesign ever of the Photos app, new ways for users to manage their inbox in Mail, and so much more."

In the latest update, users could customise the time on the lock screen with Indian numerals from 12 languages: 

  1. Arabic
  2. Arabic Indic
  3. Bangla
  4. Devanagari
  5. Gujarati
  6. Gurmukhi
  7. Kannada
  8. Malayalam
  9. Meitei
  10. Odia
  11. Ol Chiki
  12. Telugu

User can also customize and adjust the font colour and weight to create exactly the look they want for their Contact Posters.

The iOS 18 recently introduced a Live Voicemail Transcription in Indian English, which further supports Live Caller ID, along with a smart call history search and a new phone keypad search as well as the dialling experience.

With the new update, users will get the ‘multilingual keyboard’ feature.

On iPhone 12 and later versions, users will be able to type phonetically with Latin characters in English and up to 2 additional Indian languages for a trilingual predictive typing experience for the users. 

The new addition is available in Notes, Messages and anywhere users have access to the keyboard.

The multilingual keyboard will further support Emoji Prediction and QuickPath as well. The iPhone also supports alphabetical layouts for 11 Indian languages which will enable the users to type in Indian scripts directly on the device.

The tech giant said, "Keys are arranged in an alphabetical order, vowel and conjunct keys on the layouts change dynamically based on what the user is typing making it easier to find the correct character to type.”

Alphabetical layouts are available in 11 Indian languages:

  1. Bangla
  2. Gujarati
  3. Hindi
  4. Kannada
  5. Malayalam
  6. Marathi
  7. Odia
  8. Punjabi
  9. Tamil
  10. Telugu 
  11. Urdu

iOS update will also bring some more updates like enhanced language search, translate app, multilingual Siri, move to iOS app, and more control for the dual SIM as well.
