Xiaomi on Tuesday launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based payments application "Mi Pay" for its MIUI users in India. With this, the company will be taking on the other players like Google Pay and Paytm. According to the company, the Mi Pay service aims to be an all-in-one payments solution and will be available for all Xiaomi devices running MIUI OS based on Android.
The app comes integrated with the MIUI interface across contacts, SMS, scanner, app vault and setting, where ICICI Bank is the payment service provider.
Users will be able to make payments via UPI and other debit cards, credit cards and Internet banking across 120 banks and over 120 billers.
Muralikrishnan B, Chief Operating Officer, Xiaomi India said, "We have introduced our innovative Mi Pay service for our consumers in India. This is the ultimate solution to a variety of consumer payment needs, and hence empowers millions of Xiaomi users with access to digital payments".
The payment service will allow users several utility payments that range from phone bills, water or electricity bill payments and phone recharge.
The company added that Mi-Pay will offer safe and secure transactions with all data stored in an encrypted form locally in India servers.
The Mi Pay UPI has been approved by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under the multi-bank Application Programming Interface (API) model and audited by CERT-IN empanelled auditors E&Y and Lucideus.
