Qualcomm, the company known for being the biggest chip supplier for smartphones, on Thursday announced its push into the PC market with a line of chips that are designed to power business machines. The company has introduced a new Snapdragon 8cx processor with a 7nm design that is designed for personal computers. Qualcomm made the announcement of the new processor at its annual technology summit in Hawaii.

The new Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform is the world's first 7nm PC platform made by the company. It already has a new Snapdragon 855 chip for smartphones that comes with 7nm design. The Snapdragon 8cx chip will also come with Qualcomm Adreno 680 GPU for graphics.
The company mentioned that the memory interface on the Snapdragon 8cx has been doubled from 64-bit to 128-bit wide that will offer better performance compared to previous computer chipsets from the company.
Qualcomm went on to say that the commercial devices with Snapdragon 8cx would be ready for shipping by the third quarter of 2019. The company says that the processor as if now is being sampled to customers.
The Snapdragon 8cx is an eight-core processor that comes with Qualcomm’s new Kryo 495 CPU that comes with a larger cache size compared to the previous compute platforms from the company that will allow better productivity and better multi-tasking. The chip comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, along with the support for Gigabit LTE.
Qualcomm claims that the new chip offers improved battery consumption that allows a multi-day battery life along with always-on connectivity. This would be the first Qualcomm computer platform that would support the company's Quick Charge 4+ technology that so far has been only limited to smartphones.
