Googles Cloud solutions are used by other apps like Snapchat and Shopify that blamed "high levels of network congestion in the eastern US" for the problem.

The report quoted a Google spokesperson saying, "We will conduct a post mortem and make appropriate improvements to our systems to prevent this from happening it again. We sincerely apologise to those who were impacted by today's (Sunday) issues".

The outage began at 3 pm on Sunday that took almost four hours for the company to resolve the issue. YouTube too had suffered an hour and a half long outage earlier this year and in March, Facebook and its family of apps recorded the longest outage that lasted for 12 hours worldwide.

Facebook blamed on a server configuration that kept one billion users from logging into the account, including Instagram.

The long-lasting outage boosted encrypted the instant messaging app Telegram's user base by 3 million people overnight.
