In a shocking incident, smoke emanated from the wing portion of a flight at Chennai airport on Tuesday night leading to a flutter. The incident took place just before the departure time of the plane at around 9:50 pm. The flight was bound for Dubai and 320 passengers were onboard, the airport officials said.
The aircraft was refuelled before boarding the passengers. Then suddenly smoke started coming from the engine due to overfilling. Seeing this, the staff became nervous.
After the smoke was noticed, officials were alerted by the flight crew and technical experts inspected the aeroplane, smoke ceased in about 10 minutes, they said, adding fire tenders also arrived.
Why smoke emanates from Dubai-bound flight?
Investigations revealed that the smoke was caused by heat from overfilling. Firefighters arrived immediately and extinguished the fire, a major accident was averted.
The incident caused anxiety and distress among passengers. All the passengers who were going on the flight were kept in the waiting room.
Officials are currently investigating whether any damage occurred to the plane after firefighters successfully cleared the smoke. It is yet to be determined if the plane is ready to fly, as the investigation is ongoing.
Officials said that the Dubai-bound flight will be delayed as it has to take off after the inspection. The smoke incident during the plane's refuelling caused a lot of commotion at the airport.
