EVKS Elangovan Elangovan, former Tamil Nadu Congress president, passes away in Chennai

Elangovan was hospitalized due to a lung-related issue and was undergoing intensive treatment for more than two weeks.

Veteran Congress leader and former Tamil Nadu Congress President EVKS Elangovan passed away today, December 14. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Chennai. Elangovan was hospitalised due to a lung-related issue and was undergoing intensive treatment for more than two weeks, said Tamil Nadu Congress in a statement. 

The 75-year-old Elangovan was admitted to the MIAT Hospital in Manapakkam, Chennai, on November 11 after experiencing fever and breathing issues. He received extensive care, and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, along with other Congress leaders paid him a visit during medical care. 

Despite several efforts, Elangovan's health continued to deteriorate and he was placed on intensive treatment with a ventilator. He breathed his last on Saturday.

Who was EVKS Elangovan 

Congress leader EVKS Elangovan was Erode East MLA and his death has sent shockwaves across the state of Tamil Nadu. Born on December 21, 1948, Elangovan won the Erode East Assembly seat in 2023, following the untimely demise of his son, Thirumagan Evera. 

Prior to this. Elangovan represented the Gobichettipalayam Lok Sabha constituency of Tamil Nadu. At the Union level, he was the Textiles Minister between 2004 and 2009, in  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led central government.
