Darbhanga Express catches fire after colliding with freight train in Tamil Nadu, passengers injured

Railway sources say the train collided with the rear of a stationary train. According to the available information, the passenger train collided with a goods train standing on the same track. The impact was seen more on the goods train.

In an unfortunate incident, two coaches of Darbhanga Express caught fire after the train collided with a freight train in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur. Several passengers have been injured in the incident. The 12578 Mysore-Darbhanga Express collided with a goods train at 8:50 PM, sources said. 

Railway sources added that the train collided with the rear part of a stationary train and some of the passengers have been injured in the incident.  According to the available information, the passenger train collided with a goods train standing on the same track. The impact was seen more on the goods train.

Ashwini Vaishnaw reviews situation

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took stock of the situation and received information about the Mysore-Darbhanga Express accident. he spoke to railway officials and instructed them to ensure that all passengers reach their destination safely.

he asked them to make arrangements for the injured passengers to get treatment in the hospital as soon as possible. He also asked the officials to complete the rescue operation at the site as soon as possible

5-6 coaches derailed 

Latest reports suggested that nearly 5-6 coaches have been derailed and the incident was reported after the Darbhanga Express entered the loop line and collided with stationary train. The reason of the train accident has been shown as some jerk on track and the NDRF forces are being rushed to the spot.

Rescue teams, ambulances rush to spot

Six coaches derailed and there were no casualties and a few passengers were injured. A medical relief van and a rescue team had departed from Chennai Central. Rescue teams and ambulances have rushed to the spot, police added.

All passengers included guard and driver are safe. According to railway officials, the fire was reported only in the parcel van and a total of 6 coaches were derailed due to the incident. Soon after the accident was reported, around 400 locals reached the spot and helped in evacuating all the passengers.

Over 5 passengers are reported to be injured and have fractures. They have been sent to Stanley Government Hospital.

Due to the accident, three trains are stranded in Chennai Gudur area which are planned to be diverted on other routes:

  • Tiruchirapalli Howrah Express
  • Ernakulam Tatanagar Express
  • Kakinada Dhanbad Special Express
