The penultimate grand slam tournament of the year, Wimbledon, will start today (July 1) at the All England Club in London, Great Britain from Monday. Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champion in men's singles while Markéta Vondroušová won the women's singles championship. For India, Sumit Nagal will be in acton on the opening day while he will also be a part of men's doubles.
Rohan Bopanna is also in contention to win the grand slam in men's doubles. The other Indian players taking part are N Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri, both in men's doubles. Another champion player Novak Djokovik who withdrww from French Open midway dyue to knee injury, is fit and will be taking part in the tournament.
When will Indian players be in action in the first round
Ranked 72, Sumit Nagal will be in action on the opening day itself as he will face world No. 53 Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia in the first round. His match is set to commence at 8 PM IST as per the official schedule. For now, Nagal is also paired up with Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in the men's doubles and will take on the Spanish pair of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar.
India's Rohan Bopanna will be in action in doubles with his partner Matthew Ebden of Australia. The pair is second seeded and will take on Adrian Mannarino and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France on July 3.
N Sriram Balaji is partnering Luke Johnson of Great Britain in the men's doubles. Their opening round game is against French Open champions Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo on July 3.
Yuki Bhambri will be taking the field along with Albano Olivetti of France in the men's doubles and will lock horns against Alexander Bublik and Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan.
