New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Indian tennis ace Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis for winning the US Open mixed doubles title in New York.
Fourth seeds Paes and Hingis took just an hour and 17 minutes on Louis Armstrong Stadium at the Flushing Meadows to defeat American pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 on Friday.
"Well done @Leander @mhingis, hearty congratulations on winning the U.S Open mixed doubles #PresidentMukherjee," the president tweeted.
The Indo-Swiss has been on a roll year as they also won the same title earlier at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. They only missed out on the lone clay court Major -- French Open -- where they lost in the second round.
"Well played again, @Leander & @mhingis. Congrats on a great win. We are all very delighted. @usopen," tweeted Modi.
Martina is also in the women's doubles final where will she partner Paes' compatriot Sania Mirza.
