Chisinau, Moldova, Jun 7: A car exploded in Moldova's capital on Tuesday, killing the chairman of the country's tennis federation, a government spokesman said.
Igor Turcan was hospitalized with serious wounds to his leg after a Lada car with Russian plates exploded as he as he walked out of the tennis federation headquarters, police spokesman Adrian Jovmir said.
He died hours later from his injuries, said Eugen Onica, an advisor at the interior ministry.
Two other cars were also damaged in the blast.
Police are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a bomb. Turcan has business interests in Moldova's construction sector.
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat called the incident "a regrettable accident," saying it was too early to draw conclusions about what happened. AP
