Meet Aisam-ul-Haq Qureishi, Pakistan's tennis sensation

New Delhi: Pakistan's tennis sensation Aisam-ul-Haq Qureishi has finally decided to re-unite with his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna for the 2014 season. The two last played together in the ATP World Tour Finals in London in 2011 and have joined forces for a second stint with the aim of repeating their past exploits.The duo split in 2011 after Bopanna decided to partner Mahesh Bhupathi in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.So, here is a brief intro of our neighbor country's tennis star: Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi was born on 17 March 1980, in Lahore, Pakistan. He is currently Pakistan's top player. He is the only Pakistani tennis player to reach the final of a Grand Slam, which he did in 2010, competing in both mixed doubles (partnering with Květa Peschke) and men's doubles (partnering with Rohan Bopanna) at the US Open. Aisam has won the highest Davis Cup matches for Pakistan, being the most successful singles and doubles player from his country ever. He is also half of the most successful doubles pairing for Pakistan (with Aqeel Khan) in the country's sporting history. In 2011, Aisam and his partner Rohan Bopanna created a campaign, Stop War Start Tennis, with their goal to play a match on the border joining India and Pakistan.The Indo-Pak pair enjoyed an intense run during their partnership which began in 2007. Together, they reached the final of the 2010 US Open, they won the ATP World Tour Master's 1000 title in Paris the next year, and in the process, qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals in London in 2011 as they broke into the top 10 in the world rankings. The pair reached their first ATP career doubles final in 2007 at the Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open in Mumbai where they finished runners-up. They had to wait until 2011 to win their first ATP doubles title at the Johannesburg Open. They were also nominated as 'Champions for Peace' by the Monaco based organisation Peace and Sport. Aisam's nomination to this league is supported by his choice of partners, such as Amir Hadad of Israel and Rohan Bopanna of India. Qureishi partnered with Israeli player Amir Hadad during Wimbledon and the US Open tournaments in 2002. The pair won the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year award for playing together in spite of pressure from their communities.Qureshi has played the entire season with Dutchman Jean Julien-Rojer. They did not enjoy a very good season apart from a title at Miami Masters.
