Paris, May 29: Andy Murray started his French Open campaign by beating Tatsuma Ito of Japan 6-1, 7-5, 6-0.

The fourth-seeded Briton won nine straight games to take the last two sets.

Murray is bidding to become the first British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to win a Grand Slam tournament. He will next face Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.

Murray is a three-time runner-up in Grand Slam tournaments and reached the semifinals last year at Roland Garros.
