LIMA, Peru: Two goals by Luis Suarez gave Uruguay a 2-1 win at Peru on Friday to take a further step toward qualifying for next year's World Cup.
Liverpool striker Suarez, who is currently serving a suspension in the English Premier League for biting, put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute and doubled the advantage in the 67th.
Jefferson Farfan pulled a goal back for Peru in the 84th, but the hosts could not find an equalizer.
The result moved Uruguay to 19 points, three clear of Venezuela, and with a game in hand in the fight for fifth place and a berth in an intercontinental playoff for a World Cup berth.
Peru is now five points behind Uruguay.
