Amsterdam, Aug 28 : Luuk de Jong scored twice on his 21st birthday to help FC Twente return to the top of the Dutch league with a 4-1 victory over VVV-Venlo on Saturday.
Bryan Ruiz opened the scoring for Twente two minutes into the game by heading in Ola John's cross but Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa equalized in the 26th making full use of a counterattack.
Twente regained the lead when De Jong converted Marc Janko's pass two minutes later.
Janko netted the third in the 31st after going one-on-one with Gunternaar before playing in De Jong for the fourth in the 66th.
Ajax briefly led the standings after a 4-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem on Friday.
Twente, which has maintained a perfect start to the season, has two more points than Ajax.
Also, Evander Sno and Adil Auassar scored to lead newcomer RKC Waalwijk to a 2-1 win over NAC Breda, securing its second straight victory.
Lasse Schone and Nick van der Velden scored in the first eight minutes in NEC Nijmegen's 2-1 victory over Heracles Almelo. Glynor Plet replied for Heracles just before halftime.
Tommy Oar, Rodney Sneijder and Jacob Mulenga scored in FC Utrecht's 3-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem.
