London, Aug 8: Premier League football club Tottenham says it will help rebuild the disadvantaged north London neighborhood after a weekend of riots and looting.
The violence erupted Saturday evening near the club's stadium after a peaceful protest against the fatal police shooting of a man in disputed circumstances degenerated into a rampage.
Rioters torched buildings and damaged a ticket office at White Hart Lane. Tours of the stadium were canceled Monday for “safety reasons.”
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says the club plans to help “the physical clean up of our area and the longer term rebuilding of the community spirit.”
Tottenham is due to open the Premier League season at home on Saturday against Everton. AP
