Dakar (Senegal), May 10: Pierre Lechantre has quit as Senegal coach two weeks after he was appointed because of disagreement over his contract.

Senegal's national news agency APS is quoting football federation President Augustin Senghor as saying Lechantre resigned on Thursday because the federation wouldn't grant him a six-month salary advance. Senghor says a three-month advance was proposed, but Lechantre "would not accept it."

Lechantre, a Frenchman who formerly coached Cameroon and Mali, was hired to lead Senegal on April 27, replacing Amara Traore who was fired following a poor display at the African Cup in January.

Lechantre was picked ahead of compatriot Bruno Metsu on a two-man shortlist, leaving Metsu in line for a return to the team he guided to the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals.
