London, Aug 29: Humiliated after Arsenal conceded the most goals in a game since the 19th century, Arsene Wenger began plotting Monday how to turn around the beleaguered team's fortunes during the two-week international break.

Sunday's 8-2 thrashing by Manchester United left Arsenal with just one point after three matches of the Premier League season and plunged Wenger into the deepest crisis of his 15-year reign.

Wenger says “the players go away for two weeks and maybe that is a good thing ... big scores are humiliating and difficult to swallow.”

Captain Robin van Persie says Arsenal can't “hide behind injuries or suspensions. It is no excuse.”

And Arsenal announced Monday it will compensate those fans who traveled to Old Trafford by paying for a future away match ticket. AP
