World and European champion Spain will also play a friendly at Yankee Stadium, on June 11 at Yankee Stadium against Ireland.

City, the current English champion, and Chelsea, last season's Champions League winner, were already scheduled to play a friendly two days earlier at Busch Stadium in in St. Louis.

City has toured North America for two of the last three years in an attempt to boost its profile in the region and chief executive Ferran Soriano said Monday that “we are enthusiastic believers in the development of soccer in the U.S.”

Yankee Stadium has only staged two football matches, both in 2012 -- Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid's 5-1 victory over AC Milan.

Spain, which leads second-place France by one point in Group I of European qualifying for next year's World Cup, does not play another qualifier until Sept. 6 at Finland but will get getting ready for the Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Ireland, which hosts the Faeroe Islands in a qualifier on June 7, is fourth in Group C, eight points behind Germany and trailing Austria and Sweden on goal difference.
