LONDON : Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has completed the double of English football's player of the year awards.
A week after collecting the Professional Footballers' Association trophy, the Uruguay international won the 2014 vote by the Football Writers' Association on Monday.
The 27-year-old Suarez amassed 52 percent of the votes of more than 300 journalists, ahead of teammate Steven Gerrard and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.
FWA chairman Andy Dunn said of Suarez: "Tireless endeavor allied to extraordinary imagination makes an irresistible combination. Add ingenious, impudent finishing and you have a footballer who truly quickens the pulse."
Suarez's awards awards come at the end of a season when his scoring prowess has helped to erase memories of previous bans for racism and biting in Premier League matches.
