MADRID: A Spanish judge has banned Real Madrid great Zinedine Zidane from coaching at the club for three months after ruling that he does not have the required qualifications.
Judge Francisco Rubio on Monday also ruled that Zidane's fellow Madrid reserve team coach Santiago Sanchez be suspended for three months.
Rubio accepted a complaint lodged by Miguel Galan, president of Spain's national training center for football coaches.
Madrid announced in June that Zidane, who played at the club from 2001 until retiring in 2006, would coach its reserve team this season. However, Galan complained that Zidane lacked the appropriate qualifications to do so, and Rubio agreed.
Zidane served as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant with the first team in 2013. Madrid can appeal the ruling.
