RIO DE JANEIRO : James Rodriguez scored a stunning long-range volley to give Colombia a 1-0 lead over Uruguay at halftime of their second round game at the World Cup on Saturday.
With his back to goal, Rodriguez took the ball on his chest outside the area in the 28th minute and in one fluid motion turned around and fired a left-foot volley that went off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
Rodriguez's fourth goal of the tournament puts Colombia 45 minutes away from reaching the quarterfinals for the first time. Colombia would play Brazil. Missing banned striker Luis Suarez, Uruguay labored in attack with replacement Diego Forlan and Edinson
Cavani struggling to create scoring chances. Cavani's free kick in the 33rd went just over the bar in Uruguay's best chance.
