Manchester, England, Nov 6: Alex Ferguson marked 25 years in charge of Manchester United with a 1-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland.
An unremarkable game was settled in the final minute of the first half when defender Wes Brown headed into his own net on his first return to his former club since leaving in July.
Ferguson walked onto the pitch through a guard of honor formed by United and Sunderland, which was managed by former United defender Steve Bruce. A crowd of 75,570 gave Ferguson an ovation and chief executive David Gill announced the north stand was being renamed after him.
On the pitch, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand started together in United's defense for the first time since the opening day of the season. Anders Lindegaard played in goal.
