Sao Paulo, May 12: FBI agents have spent three days in Brazil training local police officers to deal with terrorist attacks ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

The Sao Paulo state public safety department said Friday the training included lectures about emergency response and investigation techniques for incidents involving chemical and bacterial agents and even nuclear attacks.

Brazil has never been the target of a major terrorist attack, but local authorities say the country may be at risk in the next few years as it is hosting high-profile sporting events such as the World Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Brazil has never previously hosted the Olympics and will be staging the World Cup for the first time since 1950. The Confederations Cup is next year.
