LONDON: Police say 13 people have been arrested in connection with an investigation into spot-fixing in English football.

Britain's National Crime Agency said Thursday that six of the people arrested were already questioned in December when information from newspaper The Sun On Sunday prompted the investigation.

The six players, including former Oldham forward Cristian Montano and Blackburn striker D.J. Campbell, were released on bail pending a hearing in April.

The NCA said "a further seven footballers aged between 18 and 30" were arrested Thursdsay. All of them are playing in clubs based in northwestern England.

Montano had his contract terminated after the newspaper reported that he tried to get a yellow card in exchange for a payment in a League One match in October last year.
