David Beckham said on Wednesday (14th July)  that he has no intention of becoming the England manager.

Putting paid to rumours that he could take charge of the national side in the future, Beckham said, "It's something I've never been interested in".

Beckham also talked of his love of the L.A. Lakers basketball team - and called his charity work "more rewarding than anything else".   Despite his very visible role on the touchline for the England games at the 2010 World Cup, football legend David Beckham has insisted that he has no desire to become a manager, even if current England coach Fabio Capello's job were to become available.

Taking part in a live global web-chat on Wednesday (14th July), Beckham said:   "You know, I've got no interest in being a manager, I must admit. You know, it's something that I've never been interested in, it's not a passion of mine to be a manager of a football team."

Beckham went on to talk of his passion for his charity work.  "One of the things I think I'm honoured to be able to do in my position is to be involved in certain charities. And you know, I think to make a difference in that side of things is more rewarding than anything else you can do, for me personally. We have our own children's charity that we've had for 11 years now in which we help children disabled children around England, around our country, and also I'm involved in UNICEF, being a UNICEF ambassador. I went to Sierra Leone about a year and a half, two years ago now, which was amazing. You know, to experience something like that was unbelievable."

And Beckham also confirmed his admiration for the Lakers basketball team in his adopted home city of Los Angeles.

"So many things to enjoy about living in LA, you know obviously the Lakers is a bonus. Like I said, I'm a big basketball fan and to be able to go to the Lakers day in, day out..." AP
