MOSCOW: The Russian Football Union says it will discuss the possibility of Crimean teams joining the Russian league with the sport's governing bodies UEFA and FIFA.
The Union's spokesman, Igor Vladimirov, said Monday it will hold talks with the governing bodies as "it's a football world, and we cannot decide things on our own."
Vladimirov said that "the logistics of the process is far from being clear" and issues such as sponsorships are yet to be worked out. He said the Crimean teams will "definitely finish this season in Ukraine."
Vladimirov said that "it's necessary to see the things with (Crimea's) status settle, to see there is a political understanding."
