Tukwila (Washington), June 6: Osvaldo Alonso and Fredy Montero each scored a pair of second-half goals as three-time defending champion Seattle Sounders ended Cal FC's run through the U.S. Open Cup with a 5-0 victory on Tuesday night.

Alex Caskey also scored for Seattle, which was held scoreless for almost 50 minutes by the fifth division team from Thousand Oaks, California, before Alonso converted a penalty kick.

Cal FC, coached by former U.S. national team player and television analyst Eric Wynalda, went further than any other U.S. Adult Soccer Association (fifth-tier) team since 1995. It was the first USASA team to beat an MLS side when it edged the Portland Timbers 1-0 in extra time last Wednesday.

The Sounders, who have not lost a match in the U.S. Open Cup since joining the MLS in 2009, will meet San Jose Earthquakes in the quarterfinals on June 26. San Jose beat Minnesota Stars FC 1-0.

In other matches, the USL Pro club Harrisburg City Island had an upset 3-1 win over New York Red Bulls in extra time, making it back-to-back wins over MLS teams, and will meet Philadelphia Union in the quarterfinals. The Union beat D.C. United 2-1 in extra time.

Chivas USA beat NASL team Carolina RailHawks 2-1 to set up a quarterfinal against Charlotte Eagles and Sporting Kansas City beat Colorado Rapids 2-0 and will host Dayton Dutch Lions in the next stage.
