Paris Saint Germain (PSG)'s Brazilian forward Neymar filed a lawsuit against his former football club Barcelona before FIFA over the payment of the second instalment of a contract-extension bonus, a source with knowledge of the suit said on Thursday.
In turn, Barcelona sued Neymar for 8.5 million euros ($10 million) over what it called a breach of contract after the player's representative paid his 222 million euros buy-out clause so he could join PSG, as media reports suggested.
FIFA's spokesman confirmed to Efe that the international federation was examining Neymar's suit, which includes a demand for 26 million euros ($30.7 million).
The La Liga side deposited the second payment at a notary's office, to be payable at the end of the transfer window, only if the player confirmed that he would stay at Barcelona and deny any negotiations with PSG.
Neymar was "stunned" by the legal action Barcelona had taken against him and confirmed he would seek the second payment be made by the club.
