Mesut Ozil to sign new contract with Arsenal as Aubameyang deal closes in?

Aubameyang's signature might be one of the key reasons for German International Mesut Ozil to pen a new deal with the Gunners as his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Arsenal's new star Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a dreadful debut as the North London club suffered a loss to the hands of bottom-placed Swansea City who are now out of the relegation zone with credits to Goalkeeper Petr Cech's disaster pass and the poor defensive errors where the Gunner's lost 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Arsenal continue to sit at the 6th spot as a win could have evened the Gunners with rivals Tottenham Hotspurs on points but the goal difference speaks a different tale.

As media reports suggest, Borussia Dortmund star striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was seen in the Arsenal training ground and may close in on a deal soon enough. Not only will the speedster reunite with his former teammate Mkhitaryan, but maybe one of the key reasons for German International Mesut Ozil to sign a new contract with the North London club as his contract terminates at the end of the season, where he will eventually be a free agent.

Ozil was long speculated to leave London and join arch-rivals Manchester United, FC Barcelona or head to Turkey. With Aubameyang coming in, the World Cup winner may sign a new deal with Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger confirmed in the post-match press conference that the Gabon speedster is on his way in but also spoke about French forward Olivier Giroud who may have played his last game for Arsenal, as media reports suggest. The Frenchman has been with Arsenal since 2012 and has been a loyal servant to the club as he has scored over 100 goals for the club in all competitions.

Olivier Giroud applauds the fans after a match.

“It’s a tribute to Olivier yes because he is a guy who gave great service to the club, never let us down on the commitment front and saved us many times," said Wenger after the loss to Swansea.

"I have absolutely no doubt, when I ask him if he is ready to commit and he says yes.

“I have no problem with that and put him on because it was needed. Unfortunately, he couldn’t help us. It was a difficult situation for him but he always had his heart 100 per cent in the team and was committed.

The Frenchman might be on his way to rivals Chelsea as Antonio Conte's search for a forward continues after Alvaro Morata's form and Michy Batshuayi being the lone striker at the moment.

Arsenal will have to win their matches from here on if they aim for a top four position. Despite bringing in the club record signing Alexandre Lacazette, the forward has scored 10 goals this season.

Arsenal will next play Sam Allardyce's Everton on February 3.
